Before reading Warfighting (Marine Corps Doctrinal Publication 1) I thought business was uncertain and risky and difficult. After reading Warfighting, I now think business is relatively certain, positively safe, and relatively easy.

• The enemy gets a vote.
They definitely started as the traditional meaning of “enemy,” but get used more broadly. The enemy could be a natural disaster, a problem, etc

That said, the Army still plans! Another frequent quote: “Hope is not a course of action.”

So how does the military handle that? I think you’d be interested in this Joint publication for all US military branches called Mission Command. It describes how to build your unit cultures and ops so everyone understands the end goal.
