My data hot take is that the most data driven companies run their analyses in Excel in the beginning, the modern data stack be damned, while companies who start out with a modern stack tend to have over-engineered data departments serving execs who prefer to go with their gut.

Also - many execs who want to be 'data driven' have limited understanding of statistics (and variation - *cough* Deming) - and modern data stacks make things worse, not better

Goldratt's "The Haystack Syndrome" also nicely makes the argument that measuring more of the wrong things is not just distracting, but actually bad. In his case the main enemy is cost accounting
