Ugh, it seems like every attempt at applying data to operations eventually leads you back to Deming.

For full context, I’m finally getting around to implementing the Amazon-style Weekly Business Review.
Apparently, one of the precursor sources is Donald Wheeler’s Understanding Variation.
Wheeler was (surprise, surprise) a colleague of Deming’s.

Wheeler's articles in the Quality Digest are also very insightful. Very straightforward and no fluff.

I'm new to this entire body of knowledge; do you have any introductory texts you'd recommend beyond 'Understanding Variation'; perhaps about or by Deming?

Welcome to the world of Quality :)
Try starting with 'Measures of Success' by Mark Graban. It's an accessible introduction w/o getting too technical.
Wheeler's articles are a great resource as mentioned earlier. Look into Deming's 'System of profound knowledge'.
