Why does it feel haunting? I thought it was an enormously positive message. Like yes, luck is real, but because it can't be changed, it's not worth considering highly or at all when making decisions. Places the locus of control back on you instead of the world.

it is haunting because it reminds you of all past decisions you made thinking you had no real agency to do anything

It's haunting to me because of Thiel's implicit argument that a) yes, reality may be probabilistic, but b) if you want to build crazy ambitious things, you cannot believe that it is.
