One thing the MBI doesn't generally account for is that burnout is considered, correct me if I'm wrong about the literature, as a form of depression/mood disorder

It isn't considered as a form of mood disorder, I think. This survey paper gives a bit of the history: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P Initially started out as a social/clinical psych thing, but eventually it fell under industrial-organisational psych. Still not (yet!) in the DSM-5
