I know this is obvious, but I think it bears repeating: the higher up you go in some skill tree, the smaller the improvements become. Which leads to some interesting observations: 1) To a novice, an expert giving feedback to the merely good will seem like nitpicking.

I wonder if you could generalize this to "feedback from an expert always seems overly specific or small (and perhaps unsatisfying) because your perceived value of that part is smaller than the expert's"?

Yeah - I don't think it always applies, but there is probably a real effect. Maybe there's a version something like: "When an expert gives you feedback that feels overly nitpicky or specific, it's a sign of ______"
