What does deliberate practice mean for the knowledge worker? How can it be applied?

I've long struggled with this and went pretty deep into the deliberate practice literature to no avail. Recently I found 's post on cognitive flexibility theory (commoncog.com/blog/how-note-) - very promising avenue.
