I would medium warn against taking Haidt as your only voice on social media mental health. He does good work but is more pessimistic than the average researcher in the field.

I’d like to see evidence of this? I assume you’re familiar with the Google docs where he invites researchers to post evidence for and against? Where an equivalent comprehensive doc with for and against and it concludes differently?

Based on my anecdotal sampling of social media I’ve found the causation to run in reverse. Crazy people LOVE to use social media.

Interesting argument about an hour in. Haidt criticized Elon Musk tweeting something like "yay Republicans, boo Dems"; doesn't like CEOs beefing like that. Fridman argues it's authentic.

I mostly agree with Haidt here. I don't like the idea of social media where all the CEOs of products beef about dumb political things.
