Yeah totally agree. But Nolan is usually an event for me. Villeneuve I guess too now given I thought Dune was pretty solid. Only non-disappointment of the last few years. The explore/exploit ratio for Hollywood is shameful relative to the freshness available on TV
Tenet was remarkable. The test I use to see if a watcher takes it seriously is to ask them “whatever happened to the silver case?” followed up with “did you work it out by yourself?” If they can answer it and they didn’t read an explainer, Nolan likely made the movie for them
Hard disagree with you here. First time for everything. The action was strangely inert. The protagonist was a charisma vacuum. And if virtually nobody can follow the plot that’s a bug not a feature.
I was initially disappointed because I watched it in a theatre with no subtitles. But then it grew on me, with the benefit of rewatches (and oh god subtitles yes).
I suppose this is how cult classics are born? 🤞
