It’s really interesting to see the evolution of Hacker News comments over time.
My article on tacit knowledge is on the front page of HN again. The last time it was on the front page, a good chunk of the comments argued that tacit knowledge didn’t exist.

Now they mostly argue that deliberate practice is a completely orthogonal thing that leads to tacit knowledge. (Accurate, but misses the point!)
Perhaps tacit knowledge is now more palatable to the HN commentari?

My old post on The Problems with Deliberate Practice is on the front page of Hacker News.
I wrote a comment that I think sums up my experience with Deliberate Practice pretty well: news.ycombinator.com/item?id=284551

1/ One of my most persistent irritations is with the whole 'OH YOU NEED TO DO DELIBERATE PRACTICE' meme.
Ugh, no, perhaps you don't. It depends on your domain. Deliberate practice has problems. Have you even tried?
I've written about this before, but here's a thread.

It’d be nice to get a demographic of who commenters are. That would give an idea of how to speak their language
Perhaps it’s their own filter bubble that is getting them closer but not there yet

I find it really odd how the usual response to your articles on HN is not to engage with the idea, but to try and dismiss it or logically deconstruct it.
I think HN people generally don't like them because you optimize for usefulness over logical correctness.

maybe in the process of writing their comments that tacit knowledge doesn't exit. they achieved a new developmental level of tacit knowledge about tacit knowledge. Internal dialogue via critical commentary can have that effect. you convert yourself.

sorry about the circularity, but we are talking about people developing a tacit understanding of tacit knowledge
