I mean that, if you want to hire someone remote who's in South Africa, you'll get told that South Africa is on a list of countries to avoid (along with countries like North Korea) and you'll never be able to get that approved. Ofc., that just means less competition for Amazon.

I used to think that Singapore might be an overlooked country, but now I think Taiwan or Vietnam might be better candidates. Mostly because it’s actually really easy to set up in Singapore, and many FAANG companies have done so. Vietnam and Taiwan, on the other hand …

Both Taiwan and Vietnam have remarkably good technical talent. (Though of course you need to know how to hire; some universities better than others, etc). But both have language barriers. One of them is difficult to start businesses in, and the other has geopolitical risk.
