attaching new words to old ideas can be very powerful
consider the use of the word "shaping" (from Shape Up)
the idea of scoping, narrowing, clarifying, decomposing, splitting, slicing, essence-finding is as old as work itself
yet we adopt new language so quickly
why? (1/n)

I think it is because
1) the vastness of prior work/thinking can be overwhelming
2) we look for accessible "short cuts" into that thinking
3) we look for salience/something tangible
4) ppl who have "shaped" things for decades are pretty terrible at describing what they do
