I think it’s more like, we are constantly orienting — building models in our heads of the territory. At the heart of competitive strategy is the question: “how do you mess with your opponent’s orientation?”
This is holistic, and may take many forms.

I suppose we could say that the enemy’s orientation is the highest order bit — but then that’s just a fancy way of saying “the enemy’s orientation is the most important thing”. So it isn’t as useful!
