I could be wrong; maybe people like writing a lot and putting their thoughts down for years and years and years, like during the early days of Blogger and LiveJournal. But I do not think so.

I see most people who sustain their effort on Substack are trying to monetise their writing directly, though. Blogger and LiveJournal AFAIK were not targeted at helping folks monetise their writing

I just keep writing my blog and hosting it on a free instance of Netlify, just so I keep ownership of my domain and writing. Substack doesn't feel that way to me, so I don't go there
