I thought of Snowflake as platform for cross-cloud ETL & analysis. But they also have a Data Marketplace on the cloud – which allows you to augment your data with external data!

Have you figured out their moat yet? Because I can’t, for the life of me, grok what it is. (Though I’m aware that it’s ok to IPO without a clear moat; Amazon was the same).

They have a notion of “Data Network Effects”. From a podcast “Snowflake is essentially a federation of data. Anyone who has a snowflake instance and a snowflake account can share data with anyone else who is on Snowflake. Because data is virtual” [1/]

They seem to want to become an OS for all data in the enterprise, and get a lot of people relevant to an org (like all suppliers in supply chain) on Snowflake so it’s easier to combine data. Also want to create network effects with their marketplace [2/]
