This is interesting: Licklider was a psychologist, so of course he knew about the limitations of tacit mental models. He saw computers (and computer modelling) as a way to take what is tacit, and make it explicit.

I recently looked into the history of Jupyter notebooks, and was very surprised to learn that the technical breakthrough that made the project possible only occured in 2010.
This means that widely available, interactive code notebooks have only been around for 10 years!

(I know Wolfram has had interactive notebooks for much longer, but Mathematica is proprietary and therefore not as widely accessible.)
