The hardest thing about working independently isn’t really the uncertainty or the lack of day-to-day social interactions (though those are hard) … it’s the lack of structure and the difficulty of facing off against The Resistance.

How have you been able to fend off The Resistance to this point? I (naively) assumed with your output/work that you had The Resistance under wraps

It was actually pretty good, but I was suffering from burnoutish symptoms at the end of last year, perhaps due to the pandemic. I suspect it wouldn’t be that bad in a normal year, but I’ve been doing a lot of reflection recently to try and figure out what’s going on.

In a normal year, I keep The Resistance at bay by just showing up and doing the work every week. But it was rather difficult to do that at the end of 2020. I strongly suspect that’s because I’m not where I normally am (Vietnam) in a normal year.

Change in location makes sense and the pandemic I'm pretty sure zapped many folk's ability to pay attention (I remember early in the pandemic finding extreme difficulty in reading non-fiction). Any changes in diet, exercise, sleep that may explain Resistance not being at bay?
