I would not preclude the possibility that he dropped all/some of these books in there as head fakes.
He’s very aware of the narrative fallacy* and ironically, Bezos brought this up in Jim Collins’ Good To Great.

I read 'Remains of the Day' after you tweeted it earlier and I thought it was a nice 'slice of life' book. I read it right after Bill Bryson's 'Notes From A Small Island' which added another dimension to my understanding of RotD
