Something I've been struggling with as well.
As suggested, I think the "12 favourite problems" framework is a good start to this.
Wonder if has a framework for this?

Hmm! I’ll ping you in the Commonplace forum perhaps, because I have longer thoughts.
The short of it is that I usually have some career goals (related to a moat), and then I work backwards from that to skills I need to learn. And then for each skill I build a learning plan.
