Me: "Did you check if they had a serious context of use?"
Friend: "No."
Me: "Hmm. Why did you think their methodology would work, given that ALL of their output is about their note taking system?"

To be fair, nothing beats 'actually testing method against reality.'
So my friend has helped everyone who listened to him — we now downweight the believability of X when it comes to note taking.
