Ok, one thing I’ll readily give to David Epstein: in Range, he picks impeccable stories. Some of these are super fun to read.

He has superb anecdotes: I liked his writing on Van Gogh so much I got the book he referenced - 'Van Gogh: The Life' by Steven Naifeh & Gregory White Smith. It is among the top 3 biographies I've read, if not the best.
