It turns out there are three types of tacit knowledge.
I've tried to avoid getting dragged into the philosophy of the term, but it seems that it's quite difficult to have a discussion about tacit knowledge without good definitions. Here's my fix:

The 3 types of tacit knowledge:
Relational — knowledge that is tacit thanks to the way we relate to each other
Somatic — embodied knowledge (like bike riding)
Collective — knowledge that can only be acquired through socialisation.
Much of what we do are a mix of all 3.
