Ericsson's early work with Herbert Simon was on think aloud protocols. It's not a stretch to say that sizable parts of the judgment and decision making literature owe a debt to him.

I said, in my post on the problems with deliberate practice (commoncog.com/blog/the-probl) that I didn't think his claims about the superiority of deliberate practice over genetics would survive the next decade, but the truth is that he's made us all richer with his work.
