“One might call what I was looking for ‘a metacookbook’—a book not about a certain cuisine or style of cooking, but about cooking itself—and I found good ones to be surprisingly rare”

Have heard great things about @CiaoSamin's Salt Fat Acid Heat. In particular, unlike Bittman, it optimizes for composability and fundamental skills over comprehensiveness:

I’ve actually been thinking about meta games a bit more since I wrote that post.
The really generic example of metagame thinking is probably Boyd: commoncog.com/blog/much-ado-

has a really nice talk that loops (pun intended) Boyd's work in!
I have often followed the adage "Less haste, more speed" - and it appears that the OODA loop is a formalisation of this.

Do you have a link to this, by any chance?
Not sure. I normally just focus on PDSA, making reference to Boyd's OODA loop in passing, but sometimes I also diagram the loop and show correspondence. But I can't recall which recorded talks OODA has appeared in, I'm afraid.

Apologies, I needed to find the talk too. It was the “speed≠agility” talk. It was very well researched, and walked nicely through the core idea!
