Has anyone written a good explanatory piece on how AMD leapfrogged Intel in the past couple of years? I don't understand what's going on right now between the two chip giants.

Here's Lisa Su from last year, for instance, talking about the fruits of their decision making. (She's quite humble about it, because uncertainty).
They've been able to deliver great performance on both graphics and CPUs at lower costs ... which, how? venturebeat.com/2019/06/10/amd

It seems like it's partially Intel's fault: they screwed up their shift to 10nm pcworld.com/article/348162
And here's another one, on just how much AMD desktop processor sales is just crushing it: techradar.com/sg/news/a-redd

This is fascinating stuff.
It's 2020, we're hunkered down thanks to a global pandemic, the number of cores is on the up and up again, and tiny AMD is doing the pushing.

#AMDforlife 😂 Not an expert, but I think Ryzen is just way better value for money. Their processors are slightly slower for gaming (~5%) but destroy Intel in basically everything else. More cores and threads, cheaper motherboards, clear upgrade paths, etc. AMD is the future

tl;dr: Poor leadership, bad strategy, competitors' excellence, and overemphasis of finance at the cost of culture & company.
