As an aside, I can’t believe I’m nodding my head to something that’s described as a ‘postmodern discourse’, but it’s 2020 and the world is in lockdown and nobody knows what’s true anymore.

Frans Osinga's book, yes. I hesitate to call it a textbook. An academic monograph perhaps.

I assume you have Boyd's briefs in hand. If not, do grab them (PDFs show up via title searches at Google). Large parts of Osinga's discussion are commentary on the briefs that imply familiarity with them. Going gets tough without them.
