(This sounds a touch uncharitable, but please interpret it charitably) The most common goal for note systems (particularly e.g. BASB) seems to be "I want to be able to rapidly write a short Medium essay from excerpts and jottings." That's fine! It's not my goal.

I'm not saying that BASB is without value. I'm saying that the biggest takeaway I have from

is that you should let your output guide your systems, and not the reverse.

(Though, side note, there does seem to be a inverse correlation between the number of quotes a writer attempts to squeeze into a piece — perhaps from their note taking system — and the quality of thinking and ideas presented in that piece).
