I have friends who scoff at other friends, ones who have had odd starts or dead ends early in their careers. I think they’re wrong. Early careers nearly always look weird and odd. Things pick up in one’s 30s and 40s. I think one should discount what one sees in the 20s.

I have to periodically remind myself that the peak of a typical career today is in one's 50s or 60s. Career thinking is difficult because of individual variance + luck, but also because you're aiming for something that's usually three decades away.

Would you say it’s better to optimize your current assets for high risk high reward or play it more conservative if under 30?
