AFAIU: 1) western cuisine is pretty beige and uninspiring. 2) 'western' as done in Singapore coffee shops is not-great more due to the low cost than anything else.

I guess "popular in NZ" would count too. I never liked ANZAC biscuits. But I can't find "German/Belgium biscuits" here. Nor things like gingernuts, lamingtons.

I miss it so much now that you’ve mentioned it. I think some families in Malaysia know about it and cook it? My mum used to make it when I was younger. It’s British in origin, isn’t it?
