I have to periodically remind myself that the peak of a typical career today is in one's 50s or 60s. Career thinking is difficult because of individual variance + luck, but also because you're aiming for something that's usually three decades away.

(Consequently, career advice by people in their late 20s/early 30s tend to be a bit suspect. Do they have staying power? Are they plausibly going to do better than average in a decade or two? Impossible to tell). ^ Above applies to myself, given that I write a career blog.
