Was hashing this out with a friend.
I think, for certain types of people, we like novel ideas because we think insight indicates truth (or at least, a competitive edge).
But insight and truth are really two independent qualities.

Idk. Trying to generalise this as a principle and failing. Isn't insight (definitionally) an accurate and deep understanding of something? Were you perhaps thinking of something more similar to epiphany/originality?

I'm thinking of insight as in insightful, a descriptor of an idea or opinion. Perhaps novelty + originality is a better word, as you've suggested.
I've noticed that I tend to assume things that sound insightful are true. Whereas the author of the idea in question could simply be optimising for attention.
