Absolutely fantastic piece. I’ve a similar notion, one that I’ve struggled to express: I think that having a rudimentary understanding of how businesses work is a useful skill to have. Changes in the underlying business of your co often have trickle down effects to your job.

Great article. Being a generalist in fundamentals of some disciplines while being a specialist in one or two seems like a good strategy. Any recommended reading for good business fundamentals that you think would be great in particular for developers?
