. asked me why I prefer paper books over a Kindle, thought I’d share them here too since he’s not the first to ask and I ended up having more reasons than expected. So, in no particular order

– much easier to browse an actual book or go back and reference certain pages

– diagrams in an ebook can be badly formatted and grainy, sometimes special characters or text don’t get rendered properly, which is rare in printed books

– ebooks can’t be loaned out to other people (I like discussing books and having a copy makes it easier for interested friends to read it)

– there’s something special in holding and reading a book that’s carefully designed and well made—especially special editions with beautiful cover design, illustrations, endsheets, typography, and paper quality

– after awhile, it gets dull seeing everything, fiction and non-fiction, in Bookerly

– and some books have a history of the typeface used at the back, which makes for fun trivia
