Here’s a reading trick I’ve discovered recently: if you want to learn some difficult technical idea (e.g. Shannon’s Information Theory, Kelly’s Formula, Modern Portfolio Theory), trick your brain into becoming interested by first reading the story behind its discovery.

I’m not sure why it works, but it does. And I also realise I’m not the first person to have discovered it; I see it mentioned here and there when searching for new reading techniques.
