We often discuss the importance of 'deliberate practice' in teacher development. At #GTDF @MaymeHostetter, President of @RelayGSE where the technique was pioneered, will explain what it's all about and how we can use it to improve teachers & leaders alike: ift.education/global-teacher

Thank you will read with interest. Been thinking DP good for drills ie surface copiable aspects of teaching - behaviour management techniques but you can’t learn to coach basketball that way - all in the rationale ; game play; analysis; decisions?

Yes, agree may be point beyond which complexity is too great and/or becomes inherent so skills can no longer be isolated (Cochran-Smith, Schulman) However, whilst high-level coaches are probably like that I reckon there's a fair bit of 'recipe' to be had at the bottom.

But I think we can develop deliberate practice activities to teach the analysis of situations and scenarios, and we can use reflection on deliberate practice to develop a deeper understanding of teacher decision-making without waiting to make mistakes in the classroom.
