Interesting. When Apple updates the store to prepare for iPhone XR preorders … the whole store goes down. I wonder what the technical considerations are, that they have to do this.

Maybe it's all a psychological thing - a bridge of anticipation... Then a "store opening" to give physicality to the web?

Yeah, I've only ever viewed it as a marketing thing; doesn't *seem* like it's technical (given how Amazon etc. don't go down just to add a new product) unless there's something real strange with their system design
