I agree knowledge-work isn't inherently bullshit & can be difficult to find a tangible benefit from it. I suppose "some jobs are bullshit" is the defensible motte, & "most jobs are bullshit" is the bailey.

I think RE: US populism, "there used to be meaningful jobs, which have been automated away & have moved to the cities" is an obvious point. I think the Economist piece doesn't have so much of the conspiratorial class stuff, though.

Graeber gives example of "corporate lawyer = bullshit", and you pointed out that this kindof job is 'knowledge work' & a globalized world needs this. Hmm. I think it'd be better to point out a job world doesn't need but isn't bullshit.
