Retweets vs Boost is a weak arguments. I'm sure people will find a way to "comment" on things. Also won't the distributed locale thing only help to increase Confirmation Bias and Silo-ism?

Off the top of my head: You can restrict the degree to which your post spreads. (Local only, followers only, federated). Confirmation bias and silo-ism is like small forums: much better than outrage spirals, which slowly converts more of the network to outrage machines.

I think the key thing for me is the faith in the open source model. With Twitter, you're waiting for a corp to fix things. With Mastodon, if you're not pleased, you can always implement the ActivityPub and OStatus protocols and plug into the fediverse with your own take.
