    My new book, Politics is for Power, is out today. Interest in politics is very high right now, but most people do a form of politics I call `political hobbyism'. In hobbyism, power is the topic of our intrigue but not the goal of our actions.

    Local political ideology is so weird. I spend my volunteer time on policing and housing. I want fewer regulations stopping housing development. And I want the police to have a smaller role in my community. I think these are conservative views. Others think they're liberal.

    My clumsy child earnestly says "oopsie-doopsie" whenever he drops/breaks/spills, and it's impossible to be even slightly annoyed after he says it. Hoping it will last for a long time.

    Question for university-affiliated people. Which political belief is more "off-limits" in academia (i.e. would result in more social/professional sanctions): public expressions in favor of Zionism or public expressions opposed to Zionism?

    At the same time, people often think that transparency measures (at state/local) are pro-democratic. sometimes they are quite anti-democratic in that the exacerbate inequality in participation. Read Bruce Cain's book for more:
