IT IS THE YEAR 2019

broke: coming out as trans just to fit in with the cool kids woke: parents expecting you to come out as trans after you do your homeworkpic.twitter.com/FgLto6kiiQ
-
ooooof theres gonna be a Reaction and its gonna be really bad for everyone
-
this is one of those topics that is much too dangerous too talk about in public. y'all are brave for doing it at all, even on your pseudonymous accounts.
-
yup i did delete that tweet
-
missed it o well
-
do you think its really so remarkable or dangerous? I think I usually am pretty sensitive to this and it doesnt seem hmm sufficiently pattern-matched to the outgroup to be radioactive
-
non-deleted tweets are an archive. I don't think any of the people in our nice little cluster would have been offended by it but I know for a fact that there are people out there will dig through archives for ammunition. I don't intend to make it easy if I get in trouble one day.

trans folks are already erecting barriers to entry
-
Wait seriously? Wow. May I ask for a case study?
-
the whole binarist vs non-binary people thing binary trans people saying you've got to do x amount of medical transition or feel dysphoria in THIS particular way
-
huuh subcultures as locally eternalist maybe eternalism as barrier to entry thanks for indulging ^^
-

I was going to well-actually you about this totally being a thing already and I'm disappointed that others have already done it
-
see trans erecting barriers to entry/minimum thresholds to surpass has been a thing since at least the 90s (cf transsexual separatism)
-
but this was always a fringe thing and commonly seen as a sort of collaborationism, seeking acceptance from terfs, or medical gatekeepers, or whatever
-
what's interesting now tho is it seems to be starting to mainstream? at least I encounter it a lot more in non-political internet spaces
-
the sense that zero standards plus prog prestige means that there are tons of fakes because saying "oh I'm trans now" and giving up is easier than actually trying to be a man
-
as trans marginally less-costly, marginally worthwhile proposition for more people. some can see this even if can't describe. some go "good for them", some "reeeee entryists (^)", some "[some third thing]" the "reeeee"s are proposing that this is a secret qualia debate somehow?
-
else i'm not sure what "fake" could mean unless making a left-field essential-nature-of-womanhood sort of proposition. i see some of this too and it's weird
