One funny thing about art critics like Greenberg is that the postmodern attitude towards them is “look at these old white men being wrong haha,” while being blissfully unaware that postmodernism is a heir to the same tradition of snobbish rejection of past tradition.
-
(While writing that tweet, it occurred to me that there really is such thing as “postmodern attitude,” that it’s wrong, and that people who deny it exists or deny that it’s wrong are also wrong.)

man yeah a memeplex's arguments vs its attitude hmmmmmm

That attitude prefigured postmodernism in works of Sartre: can’t recall the title, but in one novel of his, a loser-ish leftie prof has an affair with a hot aristo female student, and tries to convince her (to no avail) to hate a gallery of portraits of old white men...
-
...Her failure to hate is seen by him as a failure to convert to his beliefs, a confirmation of either his general loserdom or of right-wing intransigence.
