yeah I think the other thing emphasized in dignity culture as I imagine it anyway was an emphasis on deescalation going to miss that as a conflict-averse type :(

feels like that's becoming the prevailing mode, though? like, internet grievance mobs are an aberration, not the norm

what if high status culture is lending a lot of weight to internet grievance mobs but low status culture is lending weight to dignity culture?

your IRL experiences may be different from mine, which are dominated by encounters with grievance mobs growing out of formerly-sedate and dignified social groups :/

most of my experiences are online and they've been "footloose and anti-authoritarian culture ratchets towards increasing value on prestige and tyranny" across the board. and I'm including like, 4chan's tilt from "we generically don't care" to "we hate people who look different."

they were aaaalways explosive and bad at managing things, though, and they only got moreso, they were run by immature people with poor temper management from the beginning.

It's semi-similar at SA, though quite a few of the people with bad temper management have cycled out of mod/admin roles and the community has built up some pretty comprehensible norms.

unfortunately comprehensible does not mean "not authoritarian, petty, self-devouring, or even just okay".

SA has always been a mixed bag. The mods and admins always seem to be crappy people.

a few good ones emerge but the median quality is low, i shan't argue that point. I tend to stick to the tradgames area where the heat levels are low, so that definitely skews my impression.

maybe tradgamers will save us in the end or preserve a kernel of a better time like medieval monks or something
