idea: positive versus negative (affiliations? creeds?) positive: we are defined by belief in X negative: we are defined by not-belief in X hunch: positive creeds tend more oppressive than negative when they're popular

Eh, I've seen plenty of people be smashed out of nominally right-wing movements for looking the wrong way. The dudes who try to come around and tear you down for not being the right race/gender/sexuality come later. They always START with the praise...
