I will never understand why Samuel R. Delaney isn't recognized as one of the leading voices in SF of the last century. Was reading Babel-17 on my flight and it doesn't just feel current, it feels like it fell through a wormhole from a distant future

Dhalgren is hard, which is where most people start I think. Nova and Babel are a lot more accessible while still pushing the envelope

the economic theory underpinning the plot in Fall of the Towers is not so great Nova was better yeah heh although my astrophysicist friend hated it "no. No. that is a Supernova." etc Dhalgren was a hot mess

I think his work is probably hard to adapt because it doesn't make use of standard heroic narrative arcs even a little and thats pretty much all modern cinema is
