Idea Perhaps 60 years ago production modes were optimized with more diffuse talent, eg organizations would have (optimally) a very capable person overseeing lots of less capable people Now there are relatively high returns to concentrations of ability, o-ring style or whatever

Suppose that there are social returns to exposure to ability, though. Ie, if you have a high-ability person in an organization, they have a halo effect on lower-ability people around them. Concentrating ability reduces this, maybe kills these local positive externalities.
