Literally everything he cites as what he wants is stuff I would break out in hives if I were forced to deal with. I love the anonymity, the things not being 80 miles away, the not having my pharmacist know all my goddamn business.

this one hurt. I'm on about year 8 of my "work until I can gtfo" term. Man I can't wait.

It's even more brutal if you move there to compete in a creative or creative-adjacent field (performing arts, fashion design, publishing...) Even if you impress, and land gigs that sound awesome, you likely still live precariously. *My friend* couldn't take a full decade of that.
-
The smart thing would be to move from there directly to SF, that would be a brilliant move, I'm definitely not rolling my eyes at the decisions *my friend* makes...

It’s a terrible way of life. Literally enslaving yourself to a lifetime of trying to make enough to live all while competing to outspend friends on stuff that doesn’t matter. I’m glad NYC exists because it helps drive the economy but living there is insane imo.

Everyone should see it once. It is a terrible and glorious thing. I wouldn’t live there for less than ten grand a day.
