this was actually a pretty interesting experience in retrospect I think the drunk guy was trying to *buy* drugs from another guy in a minivan and the deal was going Poorly when I got outside and asked what was going on I had expected to see someone getting curbstomped. in fact,

the guy in the van was obviously exasperated, and even more so when the drunk turned around and started moving toward me, asking if I was actually going to hit him with the bat minivan guy: "why you gotta be like this dude"

they're not capable of stopping crimes in progress. it's a misunderstanding of the role of the police to think that's what they're for. the entire system is based on retributive justice. the police arrest suspects hours or days after the crime is committed. EMTs treat victims.

It *is* odd to see libertarians who bang on about the evil of taxes, being "forced by the state to do" yada yada, yet have such a hard-on for cops, i.e., the literal armed enforcers of state extortion for the tax-base.
