@eigenrobot cool thing about this machine is that it doesn't catch anything on fire

masquerobot added,
Wouldn't even be valuable to me. I need faster single-threaded perf and I think my 10 core / 20 thread was a mistake on that front. Should've gone for the 4, 6, or 8 core.
compilers stop parallelizing well once you're done building dependencies and spinning on a single module :(
but hey! fresh builds are fun at least.
>IO issue by process of elimination RAID stripe two PCI-E m.2 SSDs or 4 SATA3 SSDs. Much more than that and you'll swamp the fucking northbridge maybe?
I wonder what the NB B/W limit is on a xeon socket mobo these days.
dang I wonder if I ever figured out what that issue was think I lost interest in the project after my advisor told me it was dumb and implied I was dumb
:( a casual glance says recent model Xeons should be able to hit 10-14 gb/s in memory bandwidth assuming you don't get fucked by DMI / NB-SB DCI, that's four 2-3 gb/s SSDs in RAID, 8 if you want to be _sure_ you're saturating for noisier I/O patterns. IMHO anyway.
