I am 100% earnest about this and when elected I promise to focus literally all of my time in office working to make it safe and legal for consenting adults to kill each other with mutually agreed-upon weapons

People tend to be less flippant about etiquette if they can be run through for it.

Now I'm imagining every single New Yorker who gets cut off on the subway challenging their adversary to a duel to the death

The thing about duels is that they do involve a dispute resolution stage *before* the fight. Perhaps improving the way in which we defuse one-to-one disagreement is worth looking at. Easier to implement if it doesn't require changes in law.

My concern is the relative loss of naughtiness and fun, even assuming a thing is legal. There ought to be some air of forbidden-ness retained imo.

yeah, those things are valuable and I would like to retain them problem comes when someone ends up dead, no witnesses how do we know its not just a murder?

Witnesses are good, as are rules. Can’t do dueling properly without either.
