It frightens me that I'm only 23 and my memory has noticeably declined since I was in my teens.

yes but you're a robot.

I am also a robot. But you are a number-bot. I am a word-bot. I read dictionaries as a child. For fun. I have good recall for such things and also obscure rules from style manuals. Ancient story-fragments I never wrote from 10 years ago are still conjurable from my brain.
-
However, some tradeoffs did happen. Because my experience of myself is less continuous than others, I don't have the good recall that many others do for their childhood. I am not in the right mental "frame" to recall a whole lot. Instead, it is easier to dream of the future.

Some people feel like they woke up one day and have been the same person ever since, so our current moral intuitions about individuality, personhood, reparative vs. retributive justice, et cetera, feel obvious to them. ...I do not feel this way.

Bacopa monnieri sort of works tbh

I've heard good things about it but the effects of nootropics in general are very individual, you basically can't know without trying a given substance whether it'll help you at all, and even then, placebo effect

Pretty much

I think it helps. I can memorize credit card numbers without too much trouble and I'm 47. (Helps they have fairly predictable properties.) I'm crap with names, but I've always been crap with names.
-
My theory on the name thing is that I grew up in a small town and basically never met new people until I was 18 so I never had to worry about names.
